Doesn't it have the brace because it is considered to be a handgun?

If it had a stock, in the US it would be a short barrelled rifle, and subject to the US NFA. The brace means it is a handgun, and not a rifle.

The trick is to get it into Canada classified as a rifle and not a handgun.

laws are different here and there.

If that brace makes it 26" OAL or greater its NR by definition in the law. Doesn't matter what the americans call it.

    Maybe.
Buy a pistol in the US, bring it into Canada, does it get classified as a handgun here as well?
The Mare's Leg didn't. Maybe that is the precedent.
Remington could assemble them with buttstocks - but they would have to federally register then as SBRs. Exporting NFA controlled firearms is more complicated.
Anyway, if they could be made available here as n-r, they would be handy little rifles.

Wrong. There is no OAL requirement for NR. Being a bolt action it shouldn't matter what length it is. It hinges entirely on whether the rcmp class it as a handgun. We have the mares leg as a good example. Are there any bolt guns classified as handguns currently?

This is true, but I know for a fact it helps in the eyes of the boys in blue at the lab who arbitrarily make these decisions.

No pistol bolt actions that I know of besides that old one that was sort of a bullpup, cant remember what brand. I was effectively a pistol though.

    Any luck?
