This entire thread is what is wrong with gun culture, if we don't acknowledge it as a problem and address it we are doomed to destroy ourselves.
I wonder how many people have been interested in shooting to then be put off by the same kind of echo chamber, mightier than though bull#### I have had the displeasure of reading through.

Perhaps the mods need to enforce the content to topic related comments only.

I'm not trying to enforce my faith on anyone, I whole heartedly accept other peoples until it is forced upon people.
Freedom of choice is what I value, I know firearms represent freedom to a huge amount of people. That should be part of the core appeal, that it doesn't matter who you are, where you are from, what you wear, the colour of your hair, what texts you use as a moral outline, what church you go to or what football team you follow as long as you satisfy the legal requirements to have a licence you have the freedom to join the community.
People shouldn't have to fit a mold to be part of it, you like guns and shooting ####ing sweet but we don't have to have the same favourite ice cream flavour.
If we want the community to survive we need to appeal to more people from a varied society if we fail in doing that any future gun control measures will be that much easier to put into place.
By saying you should belong to a certain group is then excluding everyone else.

    We can agree on this.

I wish that, as a whole, we can focus on gun rights and the sport rather than our differences. But politically charged threads tend to go off the rails more easily than others.

I completely agree, these things do more harm then good.
However that doesn't mean I don't want people to have their own views and opinions, infact the opposite life is really boring when we all like the same ####, however expecting everyone else to have the same views or else I fear is short sighted.

How dull would our safes be if there was only one specific model of firearm we were allowed to own(who am I kidding we all have an sks and they are a heap of fun). If we turn ourselves into a bigger minority that could be the reality we face one day.

I think Americans, for all their division right now, tend to understand this a lot better than us. When they had that big rally to 'defend' the police from being fired, down in Virginia, there were firearms owners of all colours (and firearms of all colours too! lol) out to show their displeasure with the state's anti-gun initiative.

Have read most recent comments at least a dozen times. Some random thoughts.

    1. Thread derail. Whether intentionally by "remainers" trolling, or by people taking offense....whipping it out. Funny part is, sometimes people are arguing when they are on the same side.

    2. Geographic differences of opinion. People not from the west dont see that Kanada has been tax farming the west for decades. Perhaps they feel entitled to the cream. Lately, leftist are complaining about the source of the cream. Meanwhile, people in the west are trying to shake the teeth off the teat.

    3. Set aside the entire issue of oil, or natural gas. Insert _____.....widgets, whatever you do for a living, being under attack. Your underwater on your mortgage, noone is buying. Noone cares in government. Its not quite 18% interest rates, massive unemployment and inflation, like the last time a Trudeau was in power. Its a different coloured pile of shet, still smells.

Is Kanada headed for a "Balkanized " breakup, unlikely. Its equally unlikely that Alberta and Saskatchewan would suffer any economic armageddon by being landlocked.

Each of the western provinces are huge, granted most of the population lives within 200 km of the US border. BC itself is the size of western Europe, a area two world wars were fought in the 20th century. The Yukon, geographically the size of California, has 30 k people, while Comifornia has the population of Kanada.
A free society must outlaw harming innocent people to function, but when we seek to curtail what all of us can do, rather than holding each of us responsible for what we actually do, we give up on freedom itself.

Turn off CBC and READ A ####ING BOOK
Friend, I'm a history major. I don't listen to or watch any news channels, because once you have private industry making the news, you have private interests controlling the news. CBC used to be something else, but not anymore.
But I do read history books, and I can tell you that, yeah, EVIL WHITE PEOPLE AND THEIR RELIGIONS ARE THE CAUSE OF THE FLOOD OF REFUGEES IN EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA.

If we hadn't decided to put Israel in the middle of the most (easily extracted) oil rich region of the planet, to destabilize it to make exporting that oil easier, maybe we wouldn't have that current predicament of refugees running from what most of them used to consider heaven on earth.
Maybe you should read some different books, maybe even some that don't completely agree with your world view?

I think a lot of the current issues in this country would be a lot simpler to remedy if first and foremost we actually became a country, instead of a state of the Queen's empire. No governer general, no crown land, all treaties becoming null and void because the Canada on paper becomes no more. Get rid of the monarchy, then talk about fixing Canada.
