socialism is a broad term, universal health care is a socialist idea for example. Insurance is in a sense socialist, paying taxes to fund fire departments is socialist. Socialism doesn’t necessarily mean One party Leninist communist regimes.

In a perfectly implemented laissez faire society you would pay for the services of firefighters putting out a fire in your kitchen, you would pay for doctors to operate or treat unavoidable illness even if it unjustly bankrupts you.

Unchecked capitalism has led to grotesque abuses and manipulations by wealthy executives. Cutting taxes and eliminating social programs (a conservatives wet dream) doesn’t solve poverty, crime, homelessness, mental health issues or the opioid crisis. It literally intensifies every single one of those issues.

I personally don’t believe anyone is free to accumulate as much excessive wealth as they want at the direct expense of plunging others into crisis.

I 100% agree with you, there needs to be a balance. Right wing political groups are just as dangerous as left wing ones. I think that the folks on here who are reaching for that very right wing "utopia" will soon regret their choice if it came to fruition. I'm not saying what we currently have is perfect, far from it. There is a lot of work to do, and simply ignoring half the people in this country isn't the way to achieve our goals.

This is a problem with the firearm community. There is far too much infighting in regards to political views.

Being a gun owner does not obligate you to adopt a right wing political agenda like many here feel it should. I want to keep my guns, enjoy them and believe Canadians should have a right to own them.

Just because some of us here disagree with conservative ideology does not make us Trudeau loving anti-gunners, it simply means we disagree on other subjects.

Whoever this law student was clearly wasn’t considering the ramifications of this letter. Clearly it’s pushing stereotypes and is a humorous jab but it alienates the substantial minority of non-conservative gun enthusiasts.

We need to band together under the goal of gun rights, straying away from our main goal into right wing fantastical separatism and hooliganism will split this community and make it weak.

However if we can never achieve a unified state well it is best we cut our losses Wexit and take a stand with what little we can manage to keep united whilst the east decays and slowly reintegrates itself back in after realizing how well off we are without them. Btw no government really wants it’s citizens to be armed bc it’s the last defence anyone has against their tyranny.

We live in a capitalist world. Its the engine that generates the revenue to pay for all these social programs. Even the poorest and most corrupt places have police, fire, sanitation......basic services, your screaming at the rain on those points. The nonsense wasteful programs, government literally loses money....printing money. Now we have a government determined to destroy 30% of national GDP for ideology, add a carbon tax that leaves farmers unable to run machines or dry grain, foreign policy that lost the prairies their biggest market, corruption, and obstruction of justice. Your socialist utopia is looking exactly like every other ever tried. You know, the ones that stacked 100 million corpses in the 20th century.

Being opposed to socialism does not make you right wing, it makes you not extreme left. I am opposed to extreme ideology; socialism is an extreme ideology because it inherently means a central organization taking from one group and redistributing it as they see fit. These types of governments are almost exclusively the types to ban personal firearm ownership. Opposing this isnt right wing, it's pro personal freedom which is what used to be the status quo for left and right before the goalposts were shifted drastically to the far left.

There is no place for liberal gun owners within these forums, sadly.

i tell my co-gunners all the time that firearm ownership in the spirit of sporting, hunting and even self protection should not be political.

I'd like to see more liberal gun-owners rather than less and I would hope the rest of you do too.

Right but if the only party in Canada who is openly supporting firearms rights is the CONSERVATIVE party, we need to be uniting behind them if we actually want to prevent any bans or have them reversed. There are people here insulting the only party who will protect their gun rights on the one hand, then saying we need "unity" on the other, it's oxymoronic. Obviously the conservatives are not perfect and i couldn't stand scheer, but to think any other party in Canada will do anything but a full ban given the chance, is delusional. We need to unite behind the conservatives as those are the MPs who have consistently represented us and actually proven they are willing to change the laws in our favor. And that is an indisputable fact, not a theory.

Exactly. Communist & Socialist or anything left always brings a depressed society and of course no freedoms of any kind. The fact some of these people in here talk about balance is funny. We need a divorce.
