I wonder why the pistol caliber models are close to $200.00 more? Are they more difficult to make? Or is the demand higher, hence the premium price?

From what I've heard, popularity of cowboy action shooting has really driven up the demand/value of pistol caliber levers. Also you can fit more 357s in the mag tube than 30-30 or 45-70 so for me thats a huge selling point.

The 1894 is a different, but similar, action from the 336 or 1895 for the smaller cartridge size. But its under less pressure so i cant really see it being harder or more expensive to make. Just people want them.

I thought they'd be cheaper as well but here we are. If they were 999 id have one in the mail as we speak. As far as a fun plinker or self defense the 357 fits the bill. For hunting, the 30-30. For buffalo defense, the 45-70.

For all models of this rifle one of the main draws is the barrel length. You can buy an older 1894 in 357 but you cant have it cut down to 16". This already coming 16" and threaded barrel makes ot a nice little compact rifle that cant be made, only bought.

Excuse my ignorance, but why can't one be cut down?

Semi auto can only be cut down to 18.5, non-semi auto can only be cut down to 18". If i recall correctly. To cut down a 20" version to 16" would make it prohibited. This 16" is allowed because it is from factory. It makes no sense but it really does make this 357 with a 16" threaded barrel appealing.

Apparently our Federal bag-lickers have decided that a factory rifle barrel can not be cut down to less than 18.5". Even though the same or similar model comes from the factory with a 16.25" barrel. It's a criminal code offence. This draconian law was supposed to stop gangs and bikers from having sawed off shotguns and rifles to commit crimes. Funny how it was not a deterrent and criminals still practice this same behaviour with little to no consequence.....:(

Now be a law abiding Canadian gun owner and do this, well, they will be sure to make a example of you and imprison you for ten years.

Shotguns now come with 8"-12" barrels, as long as they are over the overall legal length which I believe is 26", it's legal to own.

Marlin used to make a factory stainless 336 SDG in a 30-30, ( Stainless Davidsons Guide ). If I remember correctly they were a Davidson's Special, 500 were made. They had a 16.25" factory barrel, black laminate pistol grip stock and fore-piece.

I have even heard rumours of a Marlin 336 SDT 30-30 ( Stainless Davidsons Trapper ), with a straight grip. Never seen one though. Except in a 41 magnum.

I have even seen a couple of JM Stainless Marlin 336 models that had a factory 16.25" barrel. In my fifty years of shooting I have seen two. Apparently Marlin states they were JM Marlin freaks of nature. They bring a premium price though.

I'm trying to figure out why a threaded barrel is needed on a lever....thinking about the 1894 16.25"

In Canada, to install TactiCool muzzle devices!
In the US, suppressors are the rage in the US now and it affects all firearms.
Heck, Hornady even sells subsonic 45-70 hunting ammo.
