Sad isn’t it? I cringe to think that when the CAF finally does decide to replace their Hi-Powers they’ll likely all get tossed into the smelter. I’d certainly appreciate the opportunity to preserve a piece of history.
Because of Policy. The government won't allow them to be sold to civilians there. If anyone is killed with a surplus police or military weapon the government will be vilified. No amount of taxpayers' money is too much to spend, waste, lose in avoiding that.

After reading through this here I do not see any government Agency picking up the tab on this one for the sake of saving rifles. I would love to but alas, I do not really see a possible means of accomplishing it.
