    Dust Port Rod

Does the c-clip need to be installed on my friends dust port rod ?

    Modern Sporter
    V7 dust cover and rod.

Came with c clip pre installed. i heard that it is preventing the rod to be fully seated.

I had the aero precision rod that comes with the c clamp attached as well and I had to cut off a piece and remove the c clamp to make it fit

Yup, depending on the handguard it may be too long.

Its way too long with the c-clip there.....I can't seat the rod in the receiving mounting hole with it there.

Its my first build so I am just concerned I would be doing something wrong. I know its just a dust cover, probably won't make anything blow up, just don't want to miss something obvious. All the install vids I could find are for typical AR builds and they all show an easy install with the c-clip ......but this isn't an AR, so I'm unsure if it's needed or not.

The handguard is a MRA V1
