Did you try another AR mag(I assume it's 223 version) ?

I did, it closes on my metal mags empty but not on the pmag that came with it. Wasn't sure if that was normal

Came back to admit I'm an idiot and didnt realize the intent till I was on the couch checking the rifle out. Its actually a nice feature if you are plinking and not keeping track of your round count. The rifle counts for you.
