Looks like they might use proprietary magazines only usable with Hi-Point firearms. Maybe there is no pistol compatible with the magazine on the market in Canada.

The Hipoint Carbines in 40 and 45 use handgun mags, but the 9mm carbine has its own mag (the 9mm handgun mag is too short, the 9mm handgun is compact handgun, whereas the 40 and 45 are fullsize guns). Even IF the 9mm handgun mag was the same, its got a sub-4" barrel which makes it prohib, thus not readily available, so they would still be considered rifle magazines in Canada because the only gun in Canada that uses them is a rifle.

er.. you have it wrong. The 9mm takes RIFLE magazines because it takes a proprietary mag made for the carbine, so it's pinned to 5. The other calibres use PISTOL mags, so they're 10 round legal. This shizz aint hard.

Which would also require pinned mags, as they don't make a 10mm handgun.

Personally I want one in 40 or 45 for that full capacity goodness. Might buy a 9mm one of these days if I find myself with a bit of extra cash though, its by far the cheapest 9mm carbine available and if we buy enough of them that might make hi point consider making more Canadian-NR-friendly options.
