John, as mentioned getting them to present their evidence could be a good thing, what fact based evidence they have would be interesting to see if they have any to present. Also find out how much they get from the government in funding donations,this may exempt them from intervener status all together? Ask Ed If you can have it ruled by the judge when you win that the coalition is responsible to pay your Legal expenses if they try and drag out your case!
They obviously chose your case thinking you are the little fish! How funny in the Montreal gazette article tried to make it out like evil corporate giant Marstar was attacking a poor little volunteer organization Poly and now the National Coalition is attacking an individual!
You aren't going to get CGC, or poly excluded from participation based being in receipt of government funding. Most advocacy groups receive some degree of government funding. All CGC has to do is convince the judge that they have an interest in the case, which is a pretty low bar considering gun crime affects everyone, and that they information which could affect the courts decision. This is a judicial review of an order by the governor in council to prohibit certain firearms. Does CGC have information about cabinet discussions? Does CGC have information on policy decisions taken by the Public Safety Minister, the commissioner of firearms, or the Registrar? Does CGC have information on the technical nature of the prohibited firearms? Do they have statistical information on the use of these firearms which can not even the Canadian Firearms Program seems able to produce?Originally Posted by Ajax148
The obvious answer to all of these questions is no. But that is for the court to decide. There isn't much we can do to stop someone from intervening. But we can rebut all of the nonsense that they are going to present, if they are permitted to participate. That should be pretty easy.
It will be interesting to see if CGC applies for intervener status in any of the other court challenges, such as the ones filed in Ottawa or Calgary. Those would be much more expensive for them to participate in.

This was mentioned "An intervener is a person or organization who does not have a direct interest in a particular court or tribunal proceeding", I guess the case may have to be assigned to a Court/Judge? Then a ruling may have to be made as to who can participate? John is taking the govt to court, not the CGC, they have no interest in John’s issues with the government other than they support the government position. It could be ruled as interference if they were allowed to intervene?
