Does this require any permanent modification of the firearm?

Looks to me that you have to cut a piece out of the foregrip. Not gonna happen on mine. Maybe a Turkish wannabe but not on my real deal Benelli.

I put mine on with no modifications at all to the gun. It just clips to the hand guard retaining ring.

You don't have to. The right handguard just doesn't have perfect fit/finish after install (out by the thickness of the tab, 1/16", hardly noticeable). Yes you can cut a little notch in the handguard to make it fit perfectly. The only other option for a big bolt release requires disassembly, drilling, tapping, threading, and reassembly. Pick your poison...

Does it end rubbing/scraping the receiver at the butt end of it?

It does touch the frame so with enough use it may mark it.

I have Mod 1. Yes it does leave a little mark on the receiver. I noticed it after only 20 uses maybe. I stopped this with a little piece of electrical tape on the "butt end", or as S&J calls it, the "over travel tab".

I think this problem could be eliminated by having the over travel tab curved like the other side, or some gentle bend instead of the abrupt 90 degree sharp corner.
