    What’s the story on the barrel, as far as condition goes? Is it the original barrel or new as part of the refinishing work?

    If that was built in 1897 it is not configured as an 1897 build!

    The barrel looks great - inside and out. From what we have discovered - when the gun was refurbished they put a hood kit on the end sight. It is from 1897 but it is not beat to death.

    You need better pictures as 1897 production had dovetailed front sight, that sight hod and sight looks like later model screwed on front so in turn they would have cut or replaced barrel .
