18650's x2 rechargeable batteries. Have had mine for years now. Still works great. Give as hell of a zap. Never used on any of my critters but, Just the sound it makes scares the #### out of my Dog. Anyone in the LML that wants to know what it feels like is more than welcome to try it out.
18650's but make sure they are button top not flat top.
