There is no "buffer" to speak of, at least not one like there is in the AR-15 operating system. When the piston sends the bolt into it's rearward stroke the recoil is absorbed by dual recoil springs that ride on steel guide rods in the upper receiver. The recoil impulse is distinctly different from an AR-15 but I would not consider it violent or unmanageable, I'm able to do double taps on the gong on my range at 100yds with no issues. In fact lots of modern service rifles used around the world such as the G36, L85 and F2000 use a clone or close derivative of this system.

Wk180c should have steel side plates . Still a good gun, very happy with mine.
