    many organizations that own a small-large number of firearms want easier methods for inventory purposes. Easier/more accurate to scan all the scans vs read off the serial numbers and record them. Some manufacturers choose to apply the QR code across the board on their product lines. To put it somewhere else "not visible" makes it harder to do a quick scan. Also, since the frame is the controlled part on most handguns, then thats the logical place to put it. I admit, it would stand out like a sore thumb on something like a custom SAA.
