That is truly a handsome rifle. Congrats!

Henry Brass Single Shot rifle. Pretty boring name but it is what it is....

Looks nice Nibe! Skinner makes a peep if you want to extend the sight radius and run an aperture.
Thanks man. Two questions come to mind:

    - I don't hunt myself but I'm interested to know if hunters on this board would actually hunt with this gun or is it more of a curiosity item
    - As per the above, peep sight or scope?

People hunt with single shot's for sure, not the most common but nothing wrong with a "make the first shot count" approach to hunting.
If your not going to be carrying the gun around then the extra weight of the scope won't be much of a concern, If you've never tried peeps they can are quite accurate to as far out as you can see your target.

The peep will look better, the scope might shoot better depending on your target and distances.

Where, how far, and what will you be shooting?

I'd go with the Skinner peep sight, the black and brass will look great and at 30 meters with an appropriate target you will have no problem making small groups.

Does the rifle come with a rail?

No rail. It has a fully adjustable folding leaf rear sight, brass bead front, and is drilled and tapped for a weaver 82 scope. Just a beautiful gun to hold and admire.

I would hunt with that gun. My Marlin 1895G has an 18.5" barrel and I can make a very accurate shot at 100 yards with the iron sights. My mother got it for me when I started working in forestry and was afraid I would get eaten by a bear. I think I would want a longer barrel if I were going to use it for hunting so that rifle with the 22" barrel would be perfect. All you need to do is practice and the 300 grain bullets will kick the least.
...and I know everything that shines ain't always gonna be gold.
