OK, it's actually unlawful to discharge a firearm 1/2 hour after sunset till 1/2 hour before sunrise in Alberta, regardless of the reason why. This was why I puzzled over the need for night vision on my firearms.
Although I can understand the military/law enforcement requirement.

Do you have infra red devices?
And would they work in daylight?
Say to detect a rabbit hiding under some brush?

We get this a lot and to be completely honest with you, there are cheaper options than what we offer that will let you see some things in the dark, including but not limited to, Call of Duty goggles, Amazon specials, Gen1 and non-autogated Gen2 systems from Russia or China with fake spec sheets, very little after-sale support, non-existent warranty, etc.
You will hear this often with night vision, but cheap night vision isn't good and good night vision isn't cheap, like many things. Cheap night vision will get your beak wet but you'll be stuck with a significant monetary loss when you try to sell it to upgrade, and be further behind the curve towards a high-end system.
We've looked through hundreds of night vision systems from Gen1 all the way to Gen3 unfilmed systems and as true end-users ourselves we've always tried to put out what we believe to be the absolute best value for other end-users. There's nothing worse for us than trying to sell cheap night vision to people, only for them to realize that they've been sold the short-end of the stick, and lose a customer for life.

You often see a lot of cheaper night vision systems like Sionyx, older Gen1, Gen2 systems, etc. being offloaded on facebook or even here on CGN. Why? Because people bought cheap and are moving on. We don't find many of our products on the secondary market because our users use them day-in, day-out, for years. For us, the LOWEST level of performance that we're willing to accept has to pass the bar of : "what night vision would I want to use that will be helpful in at least 80% of situations?"

Like I said, it goes down to provincial level. It is legal to discharge firearms after dark at approved ranges in Alberta afaik.
Yes we use IR lights and lasers that are only visible under night vision. They do not "work" under daylight because the natural amount of sunlight greatly overpowers these lights (why would you use a flashlight during the day?)
Are you referring to thermal devices? Those work 24/7 and detect heat.

I think the one "cool" option that might have come out of SHOT is the new Holosun night vision red dot but it looks like an IR camera that requires a built-in IR illuminator so the element of stealth is completely eliminated. Target MSRP I heard was a little over $1200 USD.

They also have a thermal version so no IR light needed.
