My understanding is that the first 40 will be the rilfes with the "gen1" fluted barrels and "gen1" gasblocks with every mk2 afterwards using the mid profile barrel and updated gasblock with a future mk3 down the line featuring the adjustable gasblock, dustcover and other such tweaks.
I have my eye on the fluted pencil be >weight but if I miss that boat I'll take the mid profile its only a 4oz difference.

This may have been asked and answered already, but with AR barrel compatiblity, any chance we'll see shorter pistons for range-toy barrels and type 2 grendel bolts for a longer range NR blaster?

It will be interesting to see if someone can manufacture an R18 upper that will accept MC X BGC, interchangeable trunion and barrel/ gas system. There are 3000 of these things floating around in Canada.

I would definitely love to be able to put my chunk of useless metal too good use if they were able to make that work.

Just like how colt canada pays off LMT, it is money at the end if they think a patent is involved .

Medium-weight, Fluted Barrels are rolling off of the production line as we speak for the first batch of production R18s as we speak. Other critical components are also being machined in several locations Canada wide. Speaking with the Production Manager for SAI's Canadian R18 manufacture, sales of the Production Rifles ought to realistically commence in early February 2022 at a forecast initial production rate of approximately 200 units per month, with further capacity increases planned if warranted by sales. The 40 (or so) R18 Pencil Barrel rifles will be sold to those on the waiting list between now and the start of production sales.
