According to page two of the small business guide to pst anything brought, shipped or delivered for use in bc gets taxed the pst. If you check the same bc website under business required to register and collect the tax it includes business in other provinces that sell to people in bc. Cra also says Ontario businesses must collect it. But what does the bc government or the cra know about taxation. According to the Khalsa law firm website an Ontario business must register and collect pst if selling goods to people in bc. It took me 30 seconds to google and get this info. But experiences may differ

Finally able to copy from the bc website

From the bc government pst website. You must register to collect and remit PST if you are located outside B.C. (see Location of Your Business below) but within Canada and do all of the following in the ordinary course of your business:
 Sell taxable goods to customers in B.C.
 Accept orders from customers located in B.C. (including by telephone, mail, email or
    Internet) to purchase goods
 Deliver the goods you sell to your B.C. customers to locations in B.C. (this includes goods you deliver through a third party, such as a courier)
 Solicit persons in B.C. (through advertising or other means, including mail, email, fax, newspaper or the Internet) for orders to purchase goods

What if the non BC seller/retailer is not registered in BC and does not have a BC PST #? How do they remit the BC taxes to the Provincial Government? They charged the BC PST but where does it go?

It says they MUST register if they do all that is listed. Which means registering is not optional. So if they fall into that category and do not register they are in violation of the act. Name a business that wants to have tax issues.

So to answer your question, I don’t know where the money collected for pst goes but if a business fails to register and then collects the pst and fails to forward the required collected pst to bc I know where the owner of the business is going

Find a store that does not charge you PST. There are plenty of them

Also from the bc govt website.

"Am I required to charge PST to tourists and other customers that live outside B.C.?
Yes, you must charge PST on all taxable goods and services you sell in B.C., unless a specific exemption applies. There are no general exemptions that apply if you sell goods or services in B.C. to customers that live outside B.C. (e.g. tourists). However, you generally do not charge PST if you arrange for the goods to be shipped or delivered to a location outside B.C"

Why do we pay the tax amount of the province it’s being shipped to when you ship a parcel thru Canada post? And not your provinces tax
