Sporting Over Under Shotguns For Beginners

Sporting Over Under Shotguns For Beginners

The weather is warming up and shotgun season is fast approaching. You could say that Italian Sporting Goods specialize in sporting shotguns for trap, skeet, and sporting clays. For those planning to purchase their first shotgun to get into the sport, we have many good shotguns for the beginner. Some people may have different ideas of how they would like to start off. Some people want to buy an inexpensive shotgun to test if they would like this style of shooting and then buy a better gun later on. Some people may just want to buy one better quality gun so they don't have to replace it later on. While you don't need to buy a sporting gun to shoot shorting clays, trap, or skeet, the sporting gun is geared towards the high volume of shooting that the gun is expected to endure.

    Stoeger Condor Competition

In-Stock but not on the webstore. $954.00

There is nothing fancy about the Brazilian made Stoeger Condor but there is a lot of value in this gun. It will be your least expensive option in the line up. The gun has all the sporting gun features, like an adjustable comb, but without the heavy price. The gun doesn't come in a fancy ABS hard case like the other shotguns do but it does come with a set of eight chokes. Two flush chokes in modified and improved cylinder. Six extended chokes in two full, two modified, and two improved cylinder. The gun has a 30" ported barrel for recoil reduction and the rib is extra wide for a good sight plain. This gun would be suitable for all disciplines for shotgun shooting.

Made in Turkey, the Akkar Churchill are built like a tank in comparison to those aluminum receiver other Turkish shotguns. They're known as the Double Crown in England and are a bargain of a shotgun. The lockup feels great, they come in a soft case and have a full set of 5 extended chokes. These guns are also threaded for Rem Chokes making it easy to source out other chokes if so desired. These guns have a 32" barrel, wide rib, mid bead, right hand palm swell, and are available with or without and adjustable comb. The 206 Sporting is a little long for shooting skeet but could work. The 32" barrel would be a great length for trap and sporting clays.

    Franchi Instinct Sporting

Whats a matter with you! Its a pronounced Frankie! The first Italian shotgun in this line up, the Franchi hunting shotguns were already a fantastic value and are well respected by their owners. The Franchi Instinct Sporting uses a steel receiver and comes in a bright orange ABS hard case. The shotgun features an adjustable comb, ported barrels, right hand palm swell, wide rib, adjustable comb and 30" barrels. The Franchi comes with three extended chokes threaded for the Beretta Mobil pattern. The three chokes it comes with are very useful in a Full, modified, and improved cylinder covering all your bases for trap, 5 stand, and sporting clays. The chokes the gun comes with could work for skeet but it would benefit from adding either a second improved cylinder choke or a skeet choke. For the price its a hard gun to beat.

    Beretta 686 Sporting

Click here to view Beretta 686 on the webstore

Everyone in shotgun shooting knows Beretta. They're the most dominate manufacture in the world cup and Olympics with more shooters using a Beretta than any other shotgun. The Sporting version of the 686 features heavier wood than the field gun as well as a wider rib and comes with a set of 5 Optima HP flush chokes. While the 686 lacks many of the value features of the other shotguns like an adjustable comb, the 686 is built like a tank. They're well known for their robust action, ease of service, and is used by more shooting schools than any other shotgun. If you want a shotgun that will take what ever you can throw at it, the 686 is the shotgun you should consider. The 686 Sporting is available in a 28" or 30" barrel and is suitable for all disciplines of shotgun shooting.

There is no way we could do a beginners shotgun line up without a Browning Citori and specifically the CXT. The Japanese made Browning CXT is geared towards trap shooting with the higher rib and higher comb, if the shooter is use to their gun, they could use it in other disciplines as well. The Browning Citori is that shotgun that you could buy once and use it for the rest of your life without the need to upgrade. While the gun doesn't come with an ABS hard case like most of the shotguns here do, the value of these Browning CXT shotguns is likely one of the best. The gun features 30" ported barrels, and adjustable comb, and three Invector Plus extended chokes in modified, improved modified, and full.

Another Italian shotgun on this line up. Gee, its like as if Italians make good shotguns eh? The Rizzini is really packed with value. If you were to buy a Beretta with matching features of the Rizzini BR110, you would pay almost $1000 more. The Rizzini looks amazing with its matte black no nonsense finish. The Rizzini is a 30" barrel with adjustable comb and has a set of 5 extended chokes in full, improved modified, modified, improved cylinder, and cylinder. The Rizzini is the only one in this line up that comes in a lockable ABS hard case like the more expensive Beretta shotguns. The Rizzini BR110 Sporting is also available in a 28ga.

    Browning 525 Liberty Lite

This one is for the ladies as we couldn't do a beginner shotgun in this line up without a shotgun specifically meant for you. Women have been the fastest growing demographic in shooting sports for the last several years now. The Guns N Roses events sponsored by Italians Sporting Goods is proof of that. Lots of the ladies that take the Guns N Roses program end up with this Browning shotgun as they're lighter in weight with an aluminum alloy receiver and stock dimensions set up to be comfortable for the female shooters such as a higher comb. The Liberty LT comes with four extended Diana grade Invector Plus extended chokes being full, improved modifed, modifed, and improved cylinder. The gun also comes with three InFlex recoil pads of different lengths to adjust for length of pull to custom fit the gun to the shooter.

I use to have one of those Churchill 206 field. Great starter guns. Quality is decent but had some minor blemishes new out of the box. Guess that's what you can expect from a budget level shotgun. I eventually traded it up to a Beretta 693.

They're a very good gun for the money. A little heavy but its not really much of an issue for most of us.

I have an akkar 206 mid sport and have put a few thousand rounds through it since I bought it used. Not sure how many rounds it had through it when I bought it but it has been a great gun. I mostly use it for shooting clays out in the bush and hunting. Never had a problem with it and my favourite part is it has a shorter length of pull compared to most guns I’ve shouldered. It’s really nice when you have a thick sweater on in the cold.
