Does it change the rifle's classification from NR to R if installing the 8" version?
It would only change the status if you installed it on your firearm. Common sense prevails.

That didn't have a handguard nor a barrel nut. Also no muzzle device.... this is a drop on option.

I think there is going to an issue with this gen1 to gen 2 compatibility ?
Says on their website
The GEN2 Complete Upper is only compatible with GEN2 parts. EX: Barrel, bolt and feed ramp. If you have a GEN1 you will need to also purchase the GEN2 Feed Ramp and Pin to be compatible.

Called wolverine and they do not have the upgrade parts kit for gen 1 compatibility so people who bought one I suggest you go to the freedom ordnance website and check your serial number on the parts page to check your compatibility with this gen 2 upper.
