Why would they need a motion from committee when the Libs could just do it via OIC any time they wanted.

Models are one thing. Banning an entire class of firearm is another.
Politics isn't all about who has more seats. If the Liberals could do anything they felt like, they could triple their own salaries and arrest the Conservative leadership.
Point is they need at least a veneer of legitimacy to justify the things they do, or they start looking like actual dictators instead of figurative ones.
TheGunBlog.ca reported "The SECU chair said the committee will consider a motion to approve the regulations at its next meeting on June 14th".
The committee meeting can be found here https://www.ourcommons.ca/Committees...ngs#2022-06-07 with the attempt to get unanimous consent to move the motion at 11:23:00. As I understand it, this means the motion will be voted on in the next meeting.
The motion was as follows:
"That the committee report the following to the House: That pursuant to section 118 (4)(b)(ii) of the Firearms Act (1998), the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security has decided not to conduct inquiries or public hearings into the proposed regulations tabled and referred to the Committee on May 30th, 2022."
Second reading and debate on bill 21 is happening right now in the house !!!
