Is it really a "sales" position if you are just taking orders over the phone/internet?
Sounds like an order fulfilment position. Sales are commission, no mention of commission in the ad, just salary.

There are order takers and then there are inside salespeople.

Using Pareto's 80-20, say 80% are order takers, content to collect their wage, do the minimum required, and wait for employee discounts. That leaves 20% as salespeople who see an opportunity.

Breaking down further, 4% (20% of 20%) are true salespeople who when times are slow will get on the phone or interweb or smoke signals or head to the range and seek out new business. They know the LVC (lifetime value of a customer) is NOT on the initial front end sale, but repeatedly serving a customer, known as the back end.

They'll make the time and effort to develop a database of their customers. They'll stay in touch regularly with their customers -- birthdays, holidaze, whatever. Those better at serving their customers (0.8%) will receive invitations to customers' weddings, bat mitzvahs, and christenings.

And that's only the sales part. Let's interrupt this post to return to our regularly scheduled CGN complain fest.

right, you're great negotiator, that's why you passed the test.
    but the wages are $15.01/hr.

Another guy focused on the hourly wage. You are not working at a gun counter. lol

Not worth applying for and writing a cover letter, thats coming from someone with a professional career currently on the go.

If you're looking for professionals, you need to post a starting range. If I sniff a potential raise only then is it worth it for me to invest in applying.

Otherwise I'll just forget about this job posting and take my skills further in the field I am in and keep the passion for guns as a hobby.

Keep in mind there will be little room for advancement in a position like this at a company like Tactical Imports, in a likelihood.

The cover letter is a different animal. But I am sure you know that.

If you don't like what they are asking, don't apply. Sounds like the process is too much for you, which means you are probably not the sales rep they are looking for.

If you can't sell yourself, how will you sell their products/services?
This thread is full of people who don't have a clue, wow...

This is not an hourly position. It will be a modest base salary PLUS a commission structure.

You won't be working at a gun counter waiting for customers to come in. You will be making cold calls and developing a network.
Which you've never done in your life, based on the grammar and idiocy you've posted in this thread. There are so few people here who have real firearms sales experience, its not realistic to expect someone to have directly related experience to this position.

General customer service over a phone line is arduous work, especially when it involves working with clients that come across like you do.

Clearly out of touch with current job postings and overall environment of the work force. I don't expect much from CGN users anyways

Why are you so butt hurt about no salary range?

Don't apply if it's that much of an issue for you sweetie. Stick to your "professional career" that you have on the go. lol
