You can reload your SKS just like you would an AK, without any mods to the gun.

Here's a good video showing how they work. It gets really good at around the 3-minute mark.
They work well in my Tapco stock Chinese beater with the bolt modification. They’re too tight in my Russian beauty queens with unmodified stocks - I suspect opening up the stock would help, but I’m not doing that on my Russians, nor will I modify the bolts to insert a magazine on a closed bolt.
