China #1 best
I have both... not a fan of the bayonet on my Chinese one however. Both great to shoot!
In Russia, you don’t choose which SKS you like. Russian SKS choose you.
Between a rusty Russian that's had ? of rounds through it, or an excellent condition Chinese that hasn't , I'm inclined to pick the latter. I don't use bayonet for anything other than to look at...if I did stick something with bayonet, I'd want the spike
(No such thread would be complete without a posting like the following, so here goes...)
I remember buying an unissued, unfired Chinese SKS for $99. I sold it to a range buddy for $99 about a year later.
They are excellent little rifles. Yes, a bit more "budget" in terms of build vs the Soviet rifles, but practically, it doesn't matter.
And it's not like they're going to go down in price over time...

There are new Chinese replacement parts available now and
probably in the future of someone decided to
import parts
The tip of bayonet on a Chinese SKS is also a flathead screwdriver. ftw
