(this is not legal advise, YMMV, etc etc)
The mags are not pinned, they are crimped. My understanding is that those mags only fit the rifle and not a pistol hence only 5 rounds. First time I have heard of the 9 round mags. It they fit a pistol that is sold in Canada, they should legal to use here if ya can find them. BTW if ya od...let me know as I'd like a couple as well.
...also....don't listen to the haters....it's the cheapest PCC out there, and is ugly as hell...but regardless they work great and are as accurate as any other PPC and for some reason, remarkablely quite (in 9mm anyway)...well worth the price of admission.

The Conservatives screwed things up with C-17 that banned hi-cap mags, putting a limit of 10 on handguns but only 5 on rifles... and then we got into this situation where if a mag was designed for a pistol but functioned in a rifle it could still be 10 rounds (but if it was designed for a rifle but worked in a pistol it's limited to 5 rounds). Never mind if you can put 12 rounds of 9mm into a 10-round 40S&W mag that it's OK too.

IF mag limits are to be implemented, it makes a lot more sense to do it the way the US states with mag limits have done it, i.e. the mags themselves are limited to (usually) 10 rounds, regardless if they function in a pistol or rifle (or both). That makes too much sense, though.

    Crimped? Gross.

The 9mm has that issue, the pistol mags don't fit the carbine, but I haven't heard anything about that with regards to the 40 or 45 carbines/pistols.

In fact looking at Hi Points website it states this for the 45 acp :
9-round magazine (interchangeable with JHP45 handgun)

You realize that in Canada that would end up being 5 rounds for everything right?...

    Why can’t anyone make a .45 pcc in the 6-7lb range? Surely it’s not a recoil issue…
That weight spec has got to be wrong. The Hi-Point US site says the 4945 is 7 lbs (with a 17.5" barrel). No way that extra 1.5" of barrel adds 1.5 lbs.

I can say, to add to the thread, that I have a 4945 (restricted version), and I don't find it too heavy. I can also say that it is very reliable (which is something that I can't say about my FX-9 which cost more than twice as much $$). There's no denying that the 4945 isn't exactly pretty, but it flat out works and is pretty much the cheapest PCC out there.

Oh yeah, that occurred to me, and I obviously wouldn't want that!!!

Back in the day, the rationale was that hunting regs in many/most jurisdictions had a mag limit of 5 rounds for semi-autos, therefore it made sense to the government to impose that limit.

As for the 10-round handgun limit..... I suspect that they would have loved to limit HGs to 5 rounds as well, but that would have been a major problem for all the 6-shot (or more) revolvers, so they decided to limit pistols to 10 rounds.

I should add that the 4595 is pleasant to shoot. The butt end of the stock is actually a separate part attached to the rest of the stock with a spring-loaded buffer than reduces felt recoil.

Will also reluctantly add that the price went from $549 to $649 within the last hour so there’s that too…
I have been interested in this since the 9mm came NR but I was questioning the $ increase over the 9mm. A real turn off to purchase here when I hear the price has already gone up $100.
Think I'll wait for other dealers and more competition.

I don’t think that’s true, I placed an order as soon as I saw this post yesterday, it was $649…

Yup that's justinflation for ya! Got one last year from a site sponcer in Que. I had to wait almost 4 months for stock to arrive but , under $475 with tax in and shipped to BC...can't go wrong for such a great (highly underated) little shooter.
