No, there are no other magazines that fit in the mag well of the 542 rifles.

Just a thought. I’ve been looking at 223 calibre ak mags. They look very similar to the “rock and lock” mags for the 540, with exception of the magazine tab. In theory a guy could make a new shorter release and these magazines would work.

Doesnt work, the lock ups are very different
My source is I tried playing around with galil mags back when they were 5USD a pop and didnt mind ruining a few

A new shipment of these just made it to Canada and I purchased one.
Sad to see that it wasn't STANAG Compatible.... but happy that CSC has an adapter.
