Stuart was the first person I met when i enlisted in the reserves back in 08. He was the escorting member bringing me up to the company lines at Denison. He was also my coworker, friend and mentor. He taught me everything I know about handgun discipline, PRS, and action shooting (introduced me to IDPA, got me into my black badge course, and showed me the ropes of signing up and attending IPSC matches).

At work, he and I always went shooting together. We had spent countless hours discussing the finer points of marksmanship, ballistics, philosophy, ideologies, religion, human behavior, rc cars, classical music, psychology, modes of governance, state of western culture, history, meaning & purpose, and all natures of hypotheticals. I was called by the crisis negotiator moments before his passing on Saturday morning. I wish I could have said more... I wish i could have delayed him just a couple more minutes or even seconds...

Despite everything that has transpired, I remember him fondly. For someone who was not religious, he truly displayed Christ-like behavior towards the least of us. He showed compassion and care to those who needed help and never jumped to a conclusion. He was a calm, reasonable and methodical man of the utmost caliber. Although he had many quirks, "isms", and a high degree of eccentricity, he was nonetheless an astute model of tzadik.

I will pray for you every night. I have coordinated a Holy Mass offered for you on 9 July 2023 0900h at Guardian Angels Parish (115 West St N, Orillia, ON, L3V 5C4). Anyone is welcome to attend. Funeral details at this time have not been finalized.

    God be with you.
Rest in Peace, my good friend.

UPDATE: A Memorial Visitation will take place at St. Joseph Chapel – Base Borden (535 Dieppe Rd, Borden) on Saturday, July 15th, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m., and reception to follow.

I am dreadfully sorry you all lost a dear friend. It's always hard to hear about a veteran losing their own mental health battle.
