It’s meant to be used as a designated firearm for less lethal ammunition; rubber ball/bean bag etc….

What does it mean less lethal?

less than lethal ammunition such as bean bag rounds, rubber slugs etc.

so is this just an 870 with orange furniture or has it somehow been modified so that it only fires less than lethal ammo?

99.9% sure it's simply the stock color that differentiates this model. I think I've seen it in chartreuse years ago too?

....btw, the appeal isn't likely the ability to shoot rounds we can't probably get...more likely that it's a specific LE model you can't normally get your hands on, so if that sort of thing floats your boat?

I actually dig it.

The non-lethal rounds are fairly easy to obtain.

Lightfield makes rubber slugs and controlled rubber buckshot in 12 gauge.

Same rubber buckshot is also available in 20 gauge and 410. They show grizzlies and aggressive dogs on the packaging.

We have them in Cranbrook.

We used these in law enforcement, they were designed to show the Ken and Karen's of this liberal world that no lethal ammunition was being used to shoot predators. ( human and wildlife )

In saying this, the only difference is the stock and fore-piece color. They are fully functioning 12 gauge shotguns. Ours were 3" receivers and barrels.

Get one, they are awesome shotguns. Extra furniture can always be found.

I believe all the less lethal shotguns used by L/E are standard shotguns with the orange colour stock and pump handle . You could buy a used Maverick 88 with a short barrel , and paint the synthetic stock and pump handle orange with spray paint , and use for less lethal deployment if needed .
