    F Open brass and powder

    Regards,

For BR: 100% Lapua brass when available in caliber. 90% Hodgdon and 10% IMR powder.
For Rimfire BR: 100% SK and Lapua.

If and when available I prefer to run Vihtavuori powders partly because I prefer the larger 1kg containers and I have had great results with it so far. Hunting mostly and target shooting for fun. Might step into PRS this year.

My T1x didn’t like any of the SK I have fed it so far for the 100m Benchrest Rimfire fun shoots I do.

I have never tried Lapua brass but want to for a 308 target gun. Was trying to find Palma brass but seems like that’s on hold these days for production.

Percentage wise for me it would be

    Powder is Vihtavuori 40%
Lapua Brass is 20% (just started 308 and still have a large collection of other brands 6.5prc)
Rimfire is at 20% SK waiting to find some Lapua.

    For IPSC 100% Vihtavouri
Rifle 30% Vihtavouri 40% Acurate 40% Hogdon supply and variety are the issue with using VV for rifle. Lapua brass when available in calibre.

Big game hunting I'm running lapua brass with viht powder for my 300WM and for my 308 it's viht powder with IVI Brass. If lapua 308 palma brass was available I'd use that.
Varmint hunting is 223 remington with lapua brass, accurate powder.
PRS rifle 6mm creedmoor is lapua brass and viht powder. I don't actually compete just enjoy that style of shooting.

    F-Open; -lapua brass-100%.
-VV powder-50%. (Caveat-other 50% is Alliant, which is now unubtainable, so by seasons end-100%). If it’s available in quantity.
Getting 3-4lbs of powder, and mixing lots is not great, as I use 25-30lbs a season, so need to buy 8lb kegs, not a jug here and there and have to rejig loads all the time.

Thanks to all, helpful information and we would also like to get estimates as to what entire shooting styles are using, i.e what percentage of FClass shooters use Lapua brass?

Regards and look forward to interesting responses.

Peter, I know and shoot with a ton of F Class guys here in AB, and I can tell you that 95%+ of guys are using lapua brass imo. 284 Win, Shehane, Creedmoor, 308 and Dasher/6mm stuff, are by far the most common calibres and all of them primarily only use Lapua.

As for powder, it’s a mixed bag, and I am seeing more guys going back and using Hodgdon powders again, more due to the availability the last couple years, then any extra performance benefit over VV. N555 is in huge demand as I am very sure you know, and even the new hot cartridges in F Class, the 7-6.5prc or 7prc, both love 555. Plus those guys are running Lapua brass as well.

I would like to shoot exclusively lapua Srp brass if I can find it. Prs stuff in 223rem and 6br. F/tr in 223 and 308. I’m probably putting together a 6.5 or 25 creedmoor later this year.

Honestly, I was shooting scenar-l for awhile, but I switched to Bergers. I couldn’t get my 77 grain scenar-L to register on the shot marker at 900m so I went to the Berger 80.5 full bore.

I shoot varget in everything, other than a couple hunting rifles.
