If there is an reported defect in a product from the importer, manufactor, or we are aware of a problem (brought to light in online fourms), we will check them over. Almost all mechanical problems can not found unless the firearm is test fired multiple times.

Rugers are generally pretty good but I'm always surprised when a rifle with say a poorly indexed barrel and sights leaning off to the side gets out of the factory to the exporter/importer, then gets shipped to another country and distributed to a retailer who then sells it to a customer who upon opening the box immediately without shooting the gun can plainly see the sights leaning heavily or a broken stock or some other obvious flaw that should have been picked up earlier in the chain of distribution!
If I was in the business of selling guns I'd make a point of inspecting every rifle that came through my door before selling it and I wouldn't wait for a customer to ask for it to be sent back......
Our Government trusts rivets more then law abiding gun owners.

I'm curious why the Canadian versions have a 18.5" barrel?

I thought the law defined a rifle that was altered to have a barrel of less than 18" as prohibited. Since this rifle came from the manufacturer with a 16.5" barrel, this would not apply.

A rifle is restricted if it is semi-automatic and has a barrel less than 18.5". Since this rifle is bolt action, this wouldn't apply.

    Thanks for the information!

My guess is Ruger wanted to keep the overall length and balance the same.
