    Shorten a 6'' .44 mag down to 4.2''

    Hi there,
I want a major hand cannon with a short barrel. I have had a .44 mag S&W and want to shorten the barrel down to 4.2'' the paperwork is in place with the cfro and my local gunsmith for inspection upon completion, that is not the problem, my friend runs a machine shop and is confident about going forward with this project, my only concern it the rifling inside the barrel what is the worst case scenario upon firing this piece if the rifling just ends in a different spot then how it was made factory, pleas let me know your suggestions thanks

I would tend to think the rifling position has little or nothing to do accuracy. More important is the crown and making sure the cut is at a perfect 90 to the bore to make sure the gases escape evenly around the bullet.
I have a 5" Ruger Super Redhawk which was cut from 7.5" and it shoots great.

Why start another thread on the same topic?
