We got a chance to try out the SRS and the battery ACOG at the media day.

SRS:
It has a bigger "window" and a 1.75MOA dot. As far as I can tell, the dot is still not perfectly round for my skewed eyes but it is a bit better than the amipoint. Never a big fan of rubberized light intensity switch myself. I don't understand why the intensity switches are put on both sides. So I am supposed to do an overhand pinch of the sight to adjust intensity? Why can't they do a side dial or just an aimpoint dial? They also need to make a 1/3 cowitness mount. They also need to demo this sight with a magnifier but if you look at the foot print of the current mounting solution, they probably need a cantilever if the rifle doens't have a continous rail.

I like the big window - but some of the ergonmics are a bit weird and the lack of 1/3 co-witness mount needs to be fixed.

Battery Powered ACOG :
I think Trijicon is going ass-backwards sometimes. The ACOG should be the one that is "bi-powered" by fibre optics and a small battery such as DL1/3 or CR2032 as a backup to the fibre optic for the limited time of awkward light settings. So now we have a bulky ACOG with an AA that takes the selling point of ACOG away, namely compactness.

The demo day is also a bit of failure. They should put the RMR on the ACOG for people to try on. Otherwise, it is just an ACOG.

What's wrong with AA batteries? They're available in a cold weather lithium format and the battery is the secondary source.

GT made it sound like it's ran by a single AA only. Primary.
Sure the lithium AAs are great, but all the ones I've seen sell for $10 per 2, when a coin battery or 123a battery is cheaper and more compact.

Spend 3k on a sight to save a few bucks on batteries? I guess it would be handy in a SHTF situation since AA's are far more common and rechargeable.

The sight runs primarily off the solar cell. The backup is the battery. As for lithium AA prices, who cares, its cheap considering you get three years out of one. Outside of cold temps the lithiums aren't required anyway. I still think the sight is grossly over priced considering the reddot market is dominated by Aimpoint.

In addition, the battery powered ACOG without fibre optic illumination is a huge step backwards.
