so the heavier 223 bullets can be fired no issues with a bolt gun? Just not in a semi auto? I thought 1/9 twist rate was only good for 55-62ish?

Jerry I am not sure what Savage was/is doing at the plant these days but just a heads up.............

I have removed the barrels from 4 or 5 axis rifles now and changed them, these were all new rifles with reletively low round count and range used rifles, all of the rifles had a serious build up of stainless steel polishing material in the barrel threads and nuts, the nut not only required extra force to be removed completely, but in 2 cases the threads were bent so bad that the nut was no longer useable without rechasing the threads to straighten them out...........and for what its worth both heat and spinich did not help in the removal..........

A true 9 twist will stabilize the 75gr VLDs

That is too bad that rushing to market can lead to short cuts. There were no issues with mine and I am sure, this will vary.

Give Savage Customer service a shout. I am sure they are open to feedback on their products and have been responsive the few times I have called. The Axis is well designed and can be well made BUT.....The human still has to decide to do it right...

I am thinking they blasted the assembled action/barrel prior to blueing, the threads were full of media, no need to call them, as all that was required for future use was the action and bolt, just greatful that the threads on the nut were to only ones damaged, curious if anyone else has experienced this yet.........or does in the future....

Why were there empty pop cans and cig butts in the doors of Ferraris?

Any product is still limited to the person putting it together. Hopefully, this was just an isolated problem cause it is certainly human error.

    On we go

Mine shoots the 77gr bergers very well. Havent had a problem with the stock on either of mine (223 &30-06) shooting in -30 weather. For $300 and easily shooting moa what more could you want really. Mine shoots damn good with a smoking hot barrel as a cold one.

When I swapped my 223 barrel I had the barrel nut jammed on the barrel because of the media mentionned earlier. I installed a 308 heavy barrel on my 30-06 Axis, and all went well. I had a spare nut just in case.
