T97 and $1700 left in your pocket. Get the flat top and a top of the line optic, leave the safety off and action open, dont cry cause a mag doesnt fit and fix it! Its a chunk of steel for crying out loud. Maby i like it because i have 2 vehicles, 0 cup holders and 6 ashtrays.
Back in the days of the Hyundai Pony, that would have been an easy decision. The Pony was the worst piece of crap on the road (until the Yugo came along). Now Hyundai manufactures some of the best designed and built automobiles in the world and still sells them for a fraction of Mercedes prices.
Anyone remember the Pontiac Firenza? I can still picture in my mind the last Firenza I ever saw, sitting in a parking lot ... burning.

The pony was a nightmare. The auto was totally gutless, at least the stick could be revved up for a little power. The elantra was actually pleasant to drive, would get it if resale value was not an issue.
I got the T97 cause it is one of MANY firearms that I shoot occasionally. If it was my primary and nothing else then splurge on the TAVOR. I splurged on my precision rifle that is consuming all my funds.
Revolvers RULE; remember that next time you BEND over to pick up brass OR ejected brass pings off the precision gear.
Looking for a car pool buddy for weekly weekday trips from Burnaby to POCO. Better yet I'll drive weekly and you take me hunting.
^^^ This guy.
I've shot both. I own only the T97. For the cost difference, I've put that towards ammo and eventually something else. The FTU is really nice, I opted for the proper YMA-95. Not perfect, but way cheaper and just as fun.
I vote Tavor. I hope the fact its up on the EE doesn't ruin my credibility.
have used shot tavor before, liked the feel but not the size of the gun... seen a T97 in person, seemed to shoot good and handle well! i would probably go with the T97 Pending the little fixes
Tavor
- heavy
- 10 pound trigger pull
- 3 moa at best with good ammo
- 2700 dollars???? wtf???
- Just doesent feel good
Type 97
- light weight
- 6 pound creepy trigger
- shoots minute of man at 300 meters
- only a grand to own
- slim and easy to carry
Ive owned both rifles in the past year and only kept the type 97. The tavor I think is mostly "hype" while the type 97 is nothing special either price wise it wins and is lighter, slimmer profile (easier to carry slung) and has a better trigger.
dont sweat the petty things, and dont pet the sweaty things
I would love the Tavor but its 3x the price of the T97... I just picked up the Norinco and love it. Definitely picking up the FTU from t97.ca asap to address some issues and my buddy can potentially mod a thumb safety. magazine release you get used to
