T97.ca | Official Thread of the T97NSR Flat Top Upper (FTU) | PART I

    For Immediate Release
    Duncan BC, Canada
    10.09.2013

M14.ca's web site, T97.ca, begins the prototype manufacture of a flat top, 1913 picatinny optics mount for the T97NSR rifle. The first prototype is scheduled for machining Wednesday October 16th. Details to follow. Shortly after the prototype and testing phase of this part, pre-orders for the flat top picatinny optics mount will be accepted through the T97.ca portal. (No order page present at this writing). This new flat top mount is the first of eight modifications M14.ca will be developing for the Type 97 series of rifles. We look forward to modifying the T97NSR through to the end of the year. Any questions can be directed via PM or via email to info@m14.ca

    Thank-you.

    Updated: 10.11.2013

The T97.ca "FTU" or Flat Top Upper for the Norinco T97NSR bullpup rifle is a CNC machined, 6061 series aluminum, 1913 picatinny optics mount that is 14 inches long. The FTU begins at the rear most "Tab" of the rifle's rear stock, covers the original rear sight post and extends forward to cover the original front sight. It features two, 4" 1913 picatinny side rail openings that are set in a trackway for optical precision of a 4" picatinny side rail (sold separately). The height from the horizontal flat of the rear stock comb to the top of the FTU is 1.1". The reciprocating charging handle opening is approx. 5.5" wide and 1" high.

The installation of the FTU requires a trim of the front and rear sight post towers: a simple procedure (with instructions to follow). It is affixed in position securely using a proprietary, bolt on design that is lightweight. Parts of the programming and design for the new T97.ca FTU were taken from our M14.ca Scout Hand Guard and the 4" picatinny side rails are carried over from the Blackfeather "RS."

An image of this part will be uploaded here Friday 10.11.2013. It is currently in process as at 12:25PM PST.

    Thank-you.

.Ugly! Guys make it like close to VHS bullpup.

Noted. I will bring this up at our next meeting. Thank-you. Further: on the VHS you have a 5"+ mechanical offset. The VHS requires a cheek riser. The AR15 platform offers a 3/4" rise from tube to picatinny rail. The T97.ca FTU offers a rise of only 1.1".

    What's the price on this?

TBD. This is only the first iteration for fit. The rail still requires a great deal of lightening cuts, additional openings for 4" picatinny rails at 30 degrees and range testing.

Wow. That is interesting for sure. Permanent mod yes? Given the front and rear sights are "trimmed" off the rifle.
Curious as what the other mods will be that you have planned.

Yes, modification required. Front and rear sights must be removed.

I was trying to not buy one, mainly because of the carry handle. With this mod.... Not sure I can hold off!
