Interesting Discovery - Bul Armory Steel Grips will go on an STI 2011 frame.

Hmmm...I should have thought about this earlier and gave it a try!

A pleasant surprise. Watch the video for details.

Very cool but how does it affect magazine compatibility?

In the video, how'd you miss the STI mags going in, locking, getting released (a few times) and my comments about it cycling?

Excellent. Glad you have these. I've been looking for Canadian source for a steel grip and Doubletap has been completely non-responsive.

Yes, Bul Magazines don't work with the STI 2011s - but it's not because of the lower.

It's the difference in the inner dimensions of the steel sub frames of the two guns.
STI's frame has a different design in the area where the magazine comes up through than the Bul frame. (the area where the main grip screws attach)
Keep in mind that the Bul subframe actually is threaded for the grip, but the STI subframe requires bushings on the other side of the frame for the grip.
(I used STI bushings to hold this Bul grip on the DVC Open)

The Bul magazine doesn't work in an STI Pistol because the taper on the magazine at the top is more blunt and it hits the frame before going in enough to seat (and of course, line up for feeding)

I just tried one of the new design STI 2011 Magazines in a Bul 40. It seated, locks the slide back too.
It over-seats a bit; this causes it to wedge into the frame with enough resistance that it won't drop free when the magazine release is engaged.
I'm pretty sure a decent Pistolsmith would be able to work the mags and / or the gun to accommodate these magazines reliably.
When our next Bul shipment arrives (and that's very soon) I'll mess around a bit more!
