Im thinking it should be 16" minimum ....
A 12" Handguard will cover a rifle length gas system. 15" will look better with a barrel that long.

15" handguard surpasses the gas block on rifle length, by 1.5 inches at least. 12" handguard will cover half the gas block -- which is a nice look.

I did a 17” handguard with a 20” barrel with a brake on the end and it looks perfect.

here's a handy reference for gas block positions depending on gas system.

Gas System Distance from Receiver to Gas Block Shoulder
    Pistol 4 1⁄4"
    Carbine 7 5⁄16"
    Midlength 9 5⁄16"
    Rifle 12 5⁄8"

note that gas blocks are usually 1" long so add 1 to get the minimum length of handguard to cover the gas block.

for a Rifle length system, 13.5" handguard will just barely cover the gas block (the block will be slightly proud) so I'd use 15" as a minimum.

I’ve purchased an 18.6” barrel and brake for it but it should put the brake starting just past the end of the handguard.

So I just received mine today. Here is my initial report:

    - The finish is good, doesn't seem flaky at all. Its been done pretty well, so i'm happy with that.
    - My Radian ambi charging handle and PWS bolt carry fit in the upper
    - The notch for the charging handle latch is present which is also good

However there are some issues with the trigger pack. The selector switch hole is slightly off alignment from the ones on the receiver itself, but its an easy fix. Next thing i need to test, is the bolt catch pin. Hopefully i won't have too many issues there.

    Here are some pics:

    +1. This would be great.
