‘Smart’ bullets aim to create ultimate sniper’s rifle

Ummmmm, maybe? NOT. Trajectory needs to be determined, prior to discharge of the weapon. Also don't see the point, already proven that with good optics POI is predictable. My 2 cents. Cost alone is probably prohibitive.

Any one else call BS?

Or am I alone on this one?

Meh. Why not? Look at any other type of technology and how much it's shrunk of the years. It's perfectly feasible to eventually have "smart bomb" guidance in a tiny package like a bullet.

"Cost would be prohibitive"... Yup. But I'm sure everyone said the same thing about rockets, missiles, smart bombs, tanks, submarines, automatic weapons, and so on.

I think it would need to be saboted though. Fired out of a smooth bore.

Artillery shells are doing it and have been doing it for decades. You shoot past the target and the round will yaw left or right for windage and push down into the target. The projectile spins and the guidance package is on bearings so does not spin. The problem is shrinking something that works with a 100lb projectile down to a couple hundred grains. I will not get my hopes up till I see course correcting 25mm ammo.

I have known a few people over the past forty years that would have benefited from smart bullets since they were too cheap to practice shooting very often!!!....or sight in their rifle now and then!!!

The real purpse for these bullets is to correct for windage or moving targets on high value targets. Incorrectly dialled elevation may be a factor as well, but windage and moving targets are the main benifit.

Very cool tech.
