06 Sask Hunt

I thought about bringing the 8x68S, you know it, but the Tikka carries and points sooooo nice, plus its lighter and handier (as I found out as I lugged that Mannlicher up and down every *@#%*! peak of the Crowsnest pass a few years ago chasing elk)....I'll roll the dice and say my .270 with 130 grain tripleshock handloads can git'rdun on a couple of those big ol' indestructable AB deer!:D

If the bullets bounce off, I'll be sure to report it!

If you don't want to carry that 8 anymore, just drop it off when you come out and I will take good care of her for a spell......:D

Best of luck man!'

just for the reccord what load where you using?

as a fellow 10ml owner I wouls love to know
James

Im using 43 grs IMR 4759 with a 250 gr SST. Guys are getting 3" groups at 300 yards with this load over on the Savage MLs site.
I can't speak highly enough of the accuracy and velocity these ML's get.

As for the question of tight racked 5x5's, I dont think Ive seen many around but then again I was hunting in a zone I don't normally hunt and it may be common.

Cheers!!

Nice bucks but I have a problem with Muzzle loaders that shoot 200-300 yards :p

The reason Muzzle loaders and shotgunners get the early season is because of the limited range of 'primitive' weapons. Its supposed to provide some degree of safety to farmers who are still working the feilds taking crop off.
Because of the 'limited range' you are also not as 'dangerous' and don't have to comply with the blaze orange requirement rifle hunters do. :runaway:

Now that muzzleloaders are no longer range limited and have progressed its time the laws progress as well. So either muzzleloaders come under the same regulation as rifle season or rifle season is allowed some of the perks of muzzleloader season. I favour the latter.
It would be nice to enjoy the same fall weather, instead of frozen November, clothing regulation, and equal opportunity at a season opener as a rifle hunter.
There are a lot fewer hunters afield these days and extending the season for everyone would give many more people a chance and might rekindle some of the interest. Seems everywhere else manages not to shoot each other up without blaze clothing and you could give us Sunday hunting too :)

I've been hunting for 15 yrs now and am amazed at how many fewer I see out just in that short period of time. I don't have a problem with muzzleloaders but I certainly feel opening up of some regs are due.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but from speaking with Co's in areas all around Saskatchewan and members of the SWF things arent going to change anytime soon.

I actually agree with all your points and love to hunt so much that I bought a ML that shoots like a rifle so I could enjoy the nice weather, no orange suits and have shots at non pressured deer.

Don't get so bummed out about a Nov. hunt it is that magical time of the year, "the Rut"

Cheers!!
