the "true 1x" on the millet is more like "true 0.7x" ( or would that be -0.3x ?? ) you're actually de-magnifying at that point.

only draw back as i dont mind the eye relief

Kind of a stupid reply but have you considered mounting both? I mount a Burris FastFire II on top of a 2.5-10x scope. In close range, 25-75 yd, I use the Burris. At 100 yd and beyond, I use the 2.5-10x.

The Millet is good value for the money but I find it bulky and heavy for only a 1-4x scope. what about a 2 moa aimpoint with a magnifier?

Red-dot + magnifier (be it EOTech or Aimpoint) are more big and heavy than most 1-4x scopes.
