I am looking for clarification on sling swivels for #1 mk1s in Canadian service, in particular the butt. The only ones I have seen seemed to have cheap aftermarket ones that were added in later. Did the military use sling swivels in the butts, and also, if they did does anyone have a close up pic of a military issue sling swivel on the butt of a #1 mk1?
TIA

Here's a pic of the rear swivel on a 1903 (or possibly 1902) No.1 Mk1 LSA Enfield which is in untouched "like new" museum quality condition. Commercial Serial # 66 with Military Serial # 37E. It originally came out of W.W. Greener's private corporate collection dating from 1903. We will have a very detailed virtual tour of this No.1 Mk1 LSA Enfield published with the next 2-3 weeks. It will have better closeups of the sling swivels.

If you're looking for some very detailed closeups of a No.1 MkIII* to compare, you may want to check the MKB's example and the photo virtual tour of a 1917 BSA ShtLE No.1 MkIII*.

Hope this helps........

I was thinking more along the lines of 1898 rifles. All the Canadian ones I have seen have a hole for a sling swivel about halfway between the wrist and the heel. But usually they have had cheap 1950s style sling swivels in them.

Ok, you're not talking about ShtLE No.1's, but rather "Long Lees". :)

Here you go......

Yeppers, but Carbines at that.
Wouldn't happen to have a spare swivel?

I'm not sure....

These pics are from ~Angel~'s collection......

I've seen them on eBay from time to time, when sellers break down Long Lees and sell them for their parts values........
