Hi,

I don't post much just read (by the time I read a thread others have already answered), but I would like to ask for some opinions.

My target rifle has been a Browning X-Bolt in .308 topped with a Leupold VX-3 6.5-20x40 AO which has been a pretty good combo so far. It's also supposed to be a backup hunting rifle for the wife. Well anyway I just purchased a Ruger Precision Rifle .308 that is all mine just for targets and the X-Bolt can be for hunting.
So I know I need a new scope but which rifle gets it? Would the Leupold be a good scope to put on the RPR or keep it where it is and buy a new scope with maybe more magnification, different options (AO vs. side adjustment, FFP vs. SFP) things like that? I'm only shooting 300 at most right now but this will be for longer ranges like 500-1000 as I get better. Only want to buy once whichever way it goes.
Just not sure. Thanks for any advice.

If it was me, i wouldnt go above a 4-12 ish range for a hunting scope (depending on what your hunting). I would look at a VX2, Sightron SII Big Sky or Ziess Conquest personally.
A 4-12 is plenty for 300 yards.

I would rig up your RPR with a FFP mid range magnification 6.5-20 or 3-17 or 4-16 would be plenty higher mag is nicer but base it on what you can afford as FFP scopes cost a little more, reason for the FFP is if you plan on shooting out to distance and want to learn to mil your targets or corrections you can do so at any magnification as SFP only allows it accurately at one magnification specified on the scope. Don't limit your system to your already acquired knowledge, outfit it for something you won't grow out of in just a few months. Put a good one on it and use it for everything....even hunting, you won't be disappointed.
