10/22 25rnd mag question

hello all,

yesterday i picked up a 10/22 and a 25rnd Butler Creek steel lips mag.
when i put the mag into gun it fits very loosely. doesnt seem wide enough for the mag well and rattles side to side. the stock ruger mag fits tight with no movement.

is this normal for these mags? or should i return it for another?

Yes it is normal. Well actually it isn't normal but it is common with butler creek mags. Mine is the same way. If it feeds well even when pushed side to side to the far extremes then keep it. If it doesn't then give butler creek a call or take it back. They should replace it.

maybe ill just put some hockey tape on both sides to fill in the gap.

Some people have glued on plastic shims to tighten it up. I just left mine.
