I finally took my 10/22 to the range. The 8.5 barrel I got from fabsports has a hole in the top about an inch forward of the receiver that is drilled and tapped. I did not think much about it till I went shooting. The hole actually goes all the way into the bore. The powder and gasses blow out the hole when firing. Is this supposed to be that way? What size thread/screw fits the hole? (fab is away so he isn't answering email at the moment)

Wow that sounds weird, there is the scope mounts that go on the barrel but I thought there were two screws on that.

If it is the same as the receiver it would be 6-48.

My groups seemed off, but since it was the first time with the new barrel and new scope I figured it just neede to be dialed in. I never noticed the build up of powder on the under side of the scope till 150+ rounds later. I forgot to loctite the rail screws (stupid me) and noticed the scope wiggling and then saw the powder on the scope. :(

I have the same barrel and the hole in mine also goes right through. Maybe its for a gas port. :p. Probably not since its so far back. Oh well. Maybe a set screw and some Loctite would fix it up as I sure don't want gases shooting through that hole unannounced. I haven't actually used it yet as I was waiting for my MP5 project to get underway and I would install it then. It shouldn't affect groups though as I didn't see any burrs in the barrel itself, so I'm not really worried about it. I also didn't expect that barrel to be a match grade barrel so "spray and pray" type shooting would be the order of today.

10/22 is blowback operated, so no need for a gas port. Sounds like the machinist who drilled that hole (probably for a scope mount hole) went too far.

I'd send it back to exchange it for a new barrel.

I hope its as accurate in looks as the thompson. So far, no one has come close to the MP5 look.

Wait for Fabrice to come back... I'm sure he'll take care of the problem.
The hole isn't suppose to go all the way trough.

I have complete confidence he will take care of it.

Fab,

We know the hole if for the krinker kit... the problem with CNADNSL8-5 is that the hole goes all the way through the barrel!

70 % are like this it's why I put a screw when I sell these barrels, may be I am out of stock of bolt when I sell this barrel but it's not hard to find

If you are worried that it will affect performance -don't. Lots of barrels have holes in them for blowback systems such as the AR-15 and the M1 Garand to name a few. This particular hole is located just ahead of the chamber so it won't have any impact on the bullet assuming that you put a set screw back in with some Loctite. Use a 1/8" long #8-32 set screw and you'll be ready to rock and roll:dancingbanana:.
