10/22 as youth rifle??

A semi is the last thing I would suggest for a youth...

A good bolt action with iron sights for 3 years at least ... let them master the basics safely and learn how to shoot accurately and they will always have that ...

The best tuned semi will never shoot with a bolt action as far as accuracy is concerned.

I'm a tad pissed. Thought I had one last night.

Oh, oh. You aren't talking about a stainless steel 10-22 that lasted in the EE for about 5 minutes are you?

I wouldn't give a 10/22 to anyone I wanted to stay friends with, never mind my kids! Jamomatic, lousy trigger, lousy accuracy. Sorry but not the way to learn shooting IMO.

Have you seen those Swedish Husqvarna youth .22's Anthony at Trade Ex brought in? I was thinking about picking one up for my daughter.

Interesting, I've got two that worked perfect right out of the box. No problems at all.

I think the kids will take their cues from Dad. If you shoot a semi with a scope, that is what they will want and see as the ultimate. I'd side with the crowd that says go bolt action. The 10/22 or any other semi auto and odds are it will be a lot of wasted ammo and not much concentration on making the shot. I also think bolt actions are simpler to operate and easier to prove by having the bolt open. The extra moment spent chambering another round will teach them to make the shot count. I have no problem with scoping it, if that's what it takes to get them interested, but it will mean that can't be banging it around as much.

Mine works fine too. Works even better when I feed it mini-mags. Seems everything works better when it's fed mini-mags lol, I know the cooey loves them too.

Missing out on a deal doesn't cause me grief. Recieving no response at all in reply to the PM however leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

How friggen long does it take to hit the reply button and type, "Sorry, already sold."

I started with a bolt action and loved it. I still own and shoot it 30 years later. I also recently bought 10/22. I love both for different reasons but will put my kids on the bolt action as it teaches better markmanship and handling skills and as stated earlier, it is a lot safer. Far too easy to fire 10 shots in the wrong direction.

Semi -I had so far two accidental discharges myself, all in safe direction though. Kids WILL discharge it accidentrally on more than one occasion. Especially if there is more than one kid involved.

I say if you have to cut stock to fit your kid than your kid is just too young. I know you will not listen so get one with longer barrel at least, it inherently adds to safety.
