What benefits Does one have with the the installation of a auto bolt release? How will it benefit the normal operation of my 10/22? Is it legal?

It let's you release bolt just by pulling the charging handle back and letting it fly. No more dicking around with the bolt hold open tab while trying to get the charging handle back with the other hand to get the bolt closed. I wouldn't have a 10/22 without one installed. And yes it's very much legal.

The auto bolt release makes closing the bolt much easier. After installation to close the bolt, simply pull the bolt handle, & let it go. It is legal, well until the libtards deem your 10/22 a baby killing assault weapon of mass destruction.

I was beat to it, oh well.

I just picked up a BX trigger, and Ruger seems to be doubling down on messing with the bolt tab. The pivot hole is now elongated, so that has to be filled (welded) to a proper pin diameter. Instructions from Ruger say to push rearward on the tab to lock the bolt back, push upward on the tab to release it (filling in the hole elongation eliminates the need for the upward action). While I'm fixing the hole, I'll be adding a bit more metal so the tab will stick out beyond the mag quick-release I installed.

It's perfectly legal and a must do on any 10/22.

All it does is make it so you just pull the bolt back to release it. No more goofy two handy mannoevre.

It's obviously nothing as nice as an auto-release and slightly fiddly, but you can actually engage/release the bolt release with your right hand (assuming the left is holding the rifle) by pulling the bolt handle with your thumb and working the release with your index finger. Even with an auto bolt-release, you'd need to do it lock the bolt open.

It sounds scarier then it is. It has nothing to do with turning the 10/22 into an automatic firearm (which are prohibited by law in canada). But rather as the earlier replies highlight, makes it just one step easier to return the bolt back to battery after changing magazines, locking the firearm.

The only reason that I do not make that modification myself, is that the OEM bolt lock not releasing the bolt until you want it to release the bolt is a feature that I have come to appreciate (especially during transport).

Try it yourself, see which you prefer.
