10/22 auto-bolt release?

Why is the auto-bolt release for the 10/22 such a popular mod? It's only useful when you lock the bolt open, but that doesn't happen very often. I would better understand the benefit of the auto-bolt release if the 10/22 had LSHO, but it doesn't. I change out mags with the bolt closed, then I just pull back and let go on the bolt handle to charge it. No auto-bolt release needed. Can someone explain to me why this mod is so popular? In my opinion, this mod is a waste of money because it doesn't do very much to improve function during regular use. I could be wrong though, so that's why I'm asking.

beacuse I hate phucking around with the factory one.... We need to have our bolts open at the range on the rack.... And the VQ one is cheap....

I've never had a problem using my factory bolt release one-handed (thumb over bolt, pointer finger over bolt release). It takes me 2-3 seconds to lock mine open or closed, maybe I'm just a freak. If that's the only reason, then I can't see myself buying one. I hope you don't think I'm criticizing you for needing one, I just wanted to know what the big hoopla was.

It's not that big a deal I will admit, but it takes 2 minutes with a dremel and $0 to do so it is worth it! ;)

I wouldn't waste any money buying one though.

And there is a LSHO option available if you want to spend a little money, and mod all your mags.

Since the 10/22 does lock the bolt open on an empty mag, this will at least get you half-way there. I modified mine because, quite frankly, it should have come from the factory that way.

Didn't know there was a LSHO mod for the 10/22 out there. It doesn't bother me very much, so I think that I'll just stick with my factory bolt release. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something. Thanks for the comments guys.

As a car enthusiast as well, I can understand the rationale behind being able to put a product "back to stock" before resale. Another option could be to look for another factory bolt release on the EE, file/dremel it and keep the unmodified one handy.
