10/22 autobolt

Will a 10/22 autobolt also cause the bolt to automatically lock back after the last round in the magazine has been fired? Or is this a separate modification that can be made?

Also, what is the best (inexpensive) tool to get this job done?

If you mean Auto Bolt Stop mod than YES it will hold the bolt opened after last round has been fired. Check here (the last mod on the page) for aviable parts for such mode:

If you just want to have simple Auto Bolt mode which will allow you to lock bolt in open position and simply release it back than check 10/22 Tips and Trick thread - mod is very simple and it took me only 10 minutes to make it.

The autobolt mod only allows you to close the bolt by pulling the bolt back and letting it close on it's own. Normally you need to press and release the bolt lock as you do to lock the bolt back in the first place.

The only mod you can do to have the bolt lock back after the magazine is empty is to buy a kit that makes that possible but it only works with specialized magazines.

Doing the autobolt release mod is easy with a rotary tool. A fine round file will work but elbow grease will be required. Lot's of information in the 10/22 tips thread on doing that mod and others.
