Hey all I got a quick question regarding high shots from a hot 10/22 factory barrel.

The other day at the range I was plinking with my 10/22 (which has a factory srtandard barrel not a bull) and I noticed my barrel was real hot after clearing out a jammed shell. When I put a new mag in all my shots were shooting over a foot high. I thought that I might have bumped my red dot sight so I took it off however I was still shooting high with the iron sights. I was only shooting at 15 yards aswell. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Would having one of those bull barrels prevent this? Is the hot barrel resposnible for this.

I was using the same ammo as I was shooitng all day and my round count was about 300ish in 2 hours of shooting.

After I stopped shooting for a bit it went back to normal and I was on target again. I was shooting Winchester Wild Cats from a bulk pack. Maybe I ran through a bunch of crappy ones or something?

300 rounds in 2 hours shouldn't get that barrel that hot. If you can still touch it without burning yourself, the heat isn't an issue. I once ran 390 rounds through an AR in a bit over 3 minutes. Now that was HOT.;)

A foot high at 15 yards isn't going to be anything to do with a hot barrel.

+1.
