After several trips to the range and gunsmith I have become jealous of the 10/22 gang firing off hundreds of rounds just for fun and than going home and doing there own mods

I am off to pick up a 10/22 from WSS in Cowtown but I have a barrel question. I would like to build it into a decent target shooter. Should I pay the extra for the heavy barrel or would I be better off buying el cheapo and upgrading myself. Secondly, are all the barrels interchangeable with the actions or are there different sizes?

Thx guys, Looking forward to blowing a lot of cheap rounds with you!

Any barrel should fit any action.
Of course, there are special receivers, threaded or so on,
but there there is no danger you buy one 10/22 from Ruger and
find yourself with a specialized receiver.

As for your original question:
If you buy the target model, no matter how good it will shoot,
one day you will want to change this, or try aftermarket that,
in such a way that after a year or so, all left
will be the original receiver, bolt,
some trigger parts and maybe the stock.
So, I suggest you buy the most basic model
and save your money for the mods you will feel they are necessary.

Start with the barrel and stock, then move on to the "guts". I'd suggest Green Mountain barrels as the best bang for the buck, IMHO. Get ready to feed an addiction though, if your like me, you'll end up replacing everything possible. :D
